Son of Amir Kahar found dead
KOTA KINABALU:
A son of a former minister Datuk Amir Kahar Tun Mustapha was found dead with multiple stab wounds on his body and the police have detained his fiancee to help in investigations. The body of Azlan Amir, 24, the third son of Amir Kahar, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital early yesterday morning where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Azlan’s 21 -year-old fiancee, a model, is being detained to facilitate police investigations, according to Acting City Police Chief Supt Rowel Marong. The woman was held after lodging a police report about the incident at the Karamunsing Police Station yesterday, Marong said, adding that investigations are being carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. However, Marong said the police are probing the case from all angles as to the actual cause of death and motive for the alleged killing. Family members brought back the victim’s body from the mortuary after the post-mortem was completed around 7pm. A prayer ceremony was earlier performed at the mortuary which lasted for about 20 minutes. A relative of the victim said there were numerous stab wounds on the victim’s arms, head, shoulder and back. “Based on the injuries, he was probably attacked and there could be more than one assailant involved,” he said, adding, no one knew what exactly happened. He said there was a quarrel between the victim and his fiancee on the night before he was found dead. The victim’s uncle, Penampang Umno Chief Datuk John Ambrose said there were a lot of puncture wounds as well as several bite marks on the victim’s arms. Both arms and thighs of the victim had blue-black bruises, according to him. “We sensed that something was amiss about Azlan’s death,” said John who was among some 50 grieving relatives and friends restlessly waiting for the outcome of the post-mortem at the mortuary. Also present were former Chief Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat and Papar Member of Parliament Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin. John said as far as the family could ascertain, Azlan had spent the night at his fiancee’s family house at Taman BPL in Kepayan Ridge.
“From what we were told, Azlan was alone with Rasheena in the house” he added. According to John, a police report on Azlan’s death was lodged at Karamunsing around 10pm yesterday by a family friend, Freddy Sua, who is the chief executive officer of Yayasan Bumiputra Sabah, which is chaired by Amir Kahar. Amir Kahar who is now Banggi Assemblyman, said his son was sent to the hospital by his fiancee and her mother at about 8am.
According to him, the fiancee’s mother, called his wife Datin Aminah Ambrose around 7am and claimed that Azlan had died of stroke. He said he was also informed that a police report had been made by the fiancee stating that the victim had succumbed to self inflicted injuries. Amir Kahar who last met his son Azlan on Friday morning said he was sad and disappointed over the incident and hoped he could do something to find out the truth behind his son’s death.
Amir Kahar said he was in his constituency in Kudat when his wife informed him about the shocking news and he immediately rushed to the hospital. His son, a business student at Inti College was a very outgoing person and was planning to open his own business here in Kota Kinabalu, according to Amir Kahar. Azlan leaves behind siblings Anwar, 28, Ariff 27, Ahmad Shah, 20 and Amirah, 16. He was buried near the Tun Mustapha Monument in Kamung Ulu Putatan near here.
