MONDAY-26TH NOVEMBER 2007-OVERSEAS CHINESE ARE CREAM OF THE CROP

Overseas Chinese are cream of the crop, says Zhuhai Chinese leader
KOTA KINABALU:
The overseas Chinese are not only the descendants of the Chinese people but also the ‘cream of the Chinese people’, said Zhang Ping, the Vice Chairperson of the Zhuhai National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee. She proclaimed this while speaking at the welcoming dinner hosted by the honorary president of the Global Union for Tsung Tsin and Hakka Associations, Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, at the Winner Hotel here on Friday. She stressed that such remark was not an overstatement but rather one that was based on her close observation of the overseas Chinese’s significant contributions and remarkable achievements in the various fields, including politics and socio-economic, of their home countries. Zhang had led a 17-member delegation on a three-day visit to Sabah after attending the World Canton Conference which was held in Genting Highlands recently. The delegation also consisted of many senior officials of the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government, including its deputy Secretary-General, Li Ying. Zhang also said she felt very much ‘at home’ with the warm reception given by the host. Meanwhile, she called on the Sabah Chinese people to visit Zhuhai and to take advantage of its rapid development and vast investment opportunities. She promised to assist those who intend to invest there. Located in the southwest of Pear River Delta of Guangdong Province, Zhuhai is also dubbed as one of the most romantic cities in the world besides “City of Hundred Islands” as it has 146 islands scattered in the vast expanse of the South China Sea. Also present at the memorable occasion were United Sabah and Labuan Hakka Association president Datuk Tian Fook En, its vice president, Datuk Jimmy Tham, Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Melanie Chia and Likas Assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan.
